A multi-sectioned fugue which opens softly and builds to a turbulent second subject. Angular triplet figures dominate this piece, punctuated by tremolo figures and the climatic return the the open theme.
This piece is one of several concert fugues (See the Fugue in E Flat and the Fugue in F sharp which try to update the fugue with a more modern understanding of form and structure. The soft opening can also serve as a smaller prelude (2 and a half minutes).
